Q. |
If my firm forms an LLC can an individual attorney be insured separately?
A.
No. As in the case of a partnership, professional
corporation, or solo P.C.'s
practicing as a firm, all attorneys must be insured. AIM requires that
all attorneys who practice together, regardless of entity type, be
insurable and insured under one policy. |

Q.
What are common mistakes that can cause a delay in processing my application?
A.
The following are a few of the most common
mistakes for delay in processing applications. If you are a sole
practitioner, do not fail to provide the full name and address of an
attorney who will be responsible for continuing your practice in the
event of your extended absence. The application asks for practice
percentages based upon gross billable dollars from various areas of law.
Be certain to state them and that they total 100%. If your practice
involves areas of law not listed, identify them. Do not use
"miscellaneous"
or "general litigation"
as a catch all. Be sure to attach a specimen copy of your firm's letterhead and to mail the original application to us. |

Q.
Is it necessary to disclose previous years' claims in the replacement
policy application? If so, can I just attach a copy of the complaint?
A.
A new application is required for coverage after each expiration of a
policy. Previous years' claims information must be disclosed in each year's
application. The AIM application does include a Supplemental Claims Information
form (AIM-A-3). This form can be used to report and give detailed information
regarding previous claim history prior to becoming an AIM insured. Claims
reported to AIM can be identified in question #16 of the AIM application by
listing the claim number, year reported to AIM and the name of the claimant.
This will eliminate the necessity to send complete copies of complaints and
answers each year unless otherwise requested
